Ever since I came back from Singapore, I have become
addicted to Barley tea. I’ve heard so much good things about this stuff,
including helping you lose weight.
My love affair with barley tea started last July 2014, when
I and my cousins were preparing for our departure back to the Philippines after
a 3-day sightseeing in Singapore. I remembered that I was on a hunt for the
said tea because of the things I read from several blogs about its health
benefits. I remembered that I had a eureka moment when I realized that 1) since
Singapore is a melting pot of cultures (India, Malaysia, Chinese, etc) there is
bound to be some barley tea being sold somewhere; 2) Kpop in Singapore is big
so Korean stores would be prevalent in the city. I just immediately speed walked my way
inside a Korean store and bought 2 packs of Barley tea and the rest was
history!
Personally, I am a fan of various kinds of teas. From green
teas to fruit flavored teas, I have tried all of them, even slimming teas which
have nearly caused my gastric juices to act up again (Because of that, I have
vowed to never, ever consume slimming teas again as they cause more harm to my
body rather than what they have promised ------> Barley Tea health benefits.
The taste of the tea is not bitter, but surprisingly coffee-like.
It has an aroma almost similar to a freshly grounded and brewed coffee. This is
great news for me since I have been on a no-caffeine diet for a while now due to
some health reasons. I usually drink this tea as coffee substitute during snack
times and whenever I ate something too greasy or too sweet foods as the tea usually
cleans my palate.
I order my teas abroad (See related post about GMarket
Global) outside of the Philippines as I have found out that barley tea is not
really the type of tea most Filipinos would like to drink, hence, the absence
of barley teas in Philippine grocery stores ( popular in Japan, Korea, and
China to name a few).
The brand that I usually prefer is the Dong Seo Tea or Dong
Suh Tea (Korean: 동서보리차 – I’m not really that knowledgeable in Korean so forgive
me for the errors). I purchase them regularly from this mini shop (큐마트솔루션) in
Gmarket that sells 4 boxes (30 bags in 1 box) of barley tea at ₩9,900 or at ₱ 410.
62). It’s really inexpensive but the shipping costs adds up so it’s kind of
pricey in total.
Ever since drinking the tea regularly, I have noticed that I
don’t get sick often and I don’t have to deal often of my indigestion problems.
I seldom catch the flu and when I do, it doesn’t develop to coughs and fever.
Overall, I felt that my body don’t feel sluggish and I’m more alert than
before. I even encourage a lot of my relatives to drink barley tea as a
supplement. (I even gave a box to my uncle to help him deal with
diabetes---> help him lower his blood sugar levels).
So what is your drinking addiction? What type of tea do you
usually like?
